MertonVision’s main project is to run the Guardian
Centre, a social centre where visually impaired people can make friends and after the loss of
sight regain their self confidence and try something new.
MertonVision runs an information desk at St George’s hospital and has an in-house resource
centre equipped with many aids and devices to maintain independence for
people who are blind and partially sighted.
Using the funding provided by the Greater London Fund for the Blind as well as local supporters,
MertonVision also offers:
- rehabilitation services
- education and entertainment for blind and partially sighted people resident in the Borough of Merton
- a home visiting service to help visually impaired people
with reading and correspondence
- a two monthly newsletter
- a visiting optometrist to issue specialist low vision
aids (magnifiers)
- financial relief
- clubs and classes on many aspects of daily living
- a minibus which transports members to many different functions
- Braille and Moon teaching and translation
- computer training
