Like most of our smaller members, KAB relies on our funding to help them provide a comprehensive range of services and activities for their visually impaired members. Its highly effective structure allows it to act as the co-ordinating body for a number of local blind social clubs, ensuring that the visually impaired can play an active role in the community.
Funding from the Greater London Fund for the Blind helps them to provide:
- grants to those in need of equipment tailored to meet their needs, and other essential services not covered by statutory bodies
- an educational fund, that caters for the IT and general educational needs of local blind children and adults
- a weekly Talking Newspaper that is distributed to more than 150 visually impaired people
- club activities which include arts, crafts and exercise, plus a social club for young visually impaired people and a blind bowls club
- Eye Buddies - trained volunteer home visitors who offer companionship, help with reading the mail, and taking those they visit out for walks or car trips
- Tandem and Running Buddies - schemes offering visually impaired people the experience of tandem cycling and /or running with volunteer cycling and running partners
