2011 London Marathon

Top Fundraiser Nick O'Shea receives his certificate from the Countess of WessexTop Fundraiser Nick O'Shea receives his certificate from the Countess of WessexOn Sunday 17th April 2011, nearly 40,000 runners took to the streets of London to complete the annual Marathon. It proved to be a hugely inspiring event, with people running for deeply personal and emotional reasons, as well as overcoming the physical and mental setbacks that occur during such a tough race.

The Greater London Fund for the Blind was honoured to have 7 runners fundraising for us on the day, and so we staked out a spot at Mile 14 in order to be able to cheer them on. The warm sunshine was very enjoyable for the spectators, but certainly made the conditions more difficult for those brave enough to be participating.

Mirka finished with a great time in 2011!Mirka finished with a great time in 2011!By the end of the race everyone was tired and sore, but deservedly proud of themselves. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all 7 of our participants, who have raised thousands of pounds for the Greater London Fund for the Blind. The money raised will go a long way towards making London the best city in the world for blind people to live.

Clarity, one of our member charities, also had a runner in the marathon on Sunday. Louise is raising money through sales of Clarity products, see her fundraising page here
