The Geranium Day appeal is now closed and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who made a donation. Your support is greatly appreciated.
That's right. To celebrate our 90th Anniversary a generous donor has kindly offered to double all donations made to our annual Geranium Day appeal.
However, it only applies to gifts we receive before our annual flag day in the City of London on Friday 15 April.
That's why I'd like to invite you to make a gift today.
It would be so sad to lose this matched funding and so I want to ask if you would be able to make a donation via Justgiving or simply make a quick and easy £5.00 donation by texting the word 'BLIND' to 70700.*
Why your donation (and Geranium Day) matters
For 90 years generations of kind people like you have donated to the Greater London Fund for the Blind to show they care deeply about the welfare and well-being of blind people.
Today, as in 1921 when we were founded, the GLFB exists to give blind people opportunities and support to get the best out of life.
Our annual Geranium Day gives us a chance to reflect on the many struggles blind people face.
Take a moment to think of the things you have already done today – getting dressed, making a cup of tea, opening the post– and then imagine how difficult this would have been without your eyesight.
Scary, isn't it? Yet these (and many other things beside) are the real challenges that blind people face on a daily basis.
Our member charities exist to help blind people overcome these everyday battles and to give them dignity and the chance to live independent and fulfilling lives.
Here are just two quotes I'd like to share with you to demonstrate the difference your gifts make to blind people.
"The day I joined my local blind association my life immediately changed for the better. I go there several times a week and receive mobility training and practical advice. I also enjoy various activities and look forward to meeting the many good friends I have made there. My life wouldn't be the same without the help and happiness that they have given me." Irene
"One day I decided I couldn't cope any longer and contacted the GLFB's Member Charity that was closest to me. They helped with my mobility which was a godsend and gave me a reason for waking up in the morning because they gave me confidence and hope." Judith
Irene, Judith and hundreds of people like them depend on your gifts to improve their lives.
I do hope you will be able to help and would liek to thank you in advance for your kindness and for doubling the impact of your donation this Geranium Day.
Donations need to be received by 5.00pm on Friday 15 April to ensure they are doubled, so please send your gift today.
